Detroit's Community Health and Social Services Center (CHASS) is getting environmental justice on the urban agenda by creating viral videos that highlight local hazards. CHASS also partnered with Southwest Detroit Environmental Vision to conduct a bilingual survey and focus groups around residents’ environmental priorities and concerns. The organization hopes HEAN will lay the groundwork for future reforms, such as regulating the vehicle traffic from long-haul tractor-trailers.
Established in 1970, the Community Health and Social Services (CHASS) Center is a federally qualified Community Health Center with the mission
of providing comprehensive health and wellness services to uninsured and underinsured residents of Detroit, with emphasis on the underserved African American and Latino populations. CHASS has clinic sites in
Detroit’s Southwest and MidTown communities and a school-based health center inside Western International High School on the City’s southwest side. For more information about CHASS, please visit their website.
